Program Description
Learning Objective: To outline in detail how to perform Immediate-Use Steam Sterilization, following evidence-based protocols, accreditation standards and manufacturer recommendations
Previously known as Flash Sterilization, many facilities perform Immediate-Use Steam Sterilization in order to turn instruments around quickly. However, its use has been implicated in increasing a patient’s risk of infection. To guarantee successful sterilization, professionals must incorporate evidence-based practices and comply with accreditation standards to improve patient care.
Based upon the new AAMI, IAHCSMM, AORN, APIC, ASC, and AAAHC position paper, as well as CDC guidelines and Joint Commission standards, this important program outlines the infection risks associated with immediate-use steam sterilization, and the techniques for proper processing.
This program will help every Technician who performs IUSS with the following, and more:- Types of Immediate Use Steam Sterilization
- Instruments that should never be processed by IUSS
- Thorough cleaning prior to sterilization
- Biological and physical monitoring of sterilization cycles
- Documentation requirements for IUSS processing
