Program Description
Learning Objective: To educate healthcare providers on the importance of maintaining focus on the risks factors associated with TB and the preventative measures that can be used to reduce transmission
Because of the growing number of TB cases among foreign-born individuals, it is critical that institutional and clinical awareness be maintained in order to prevent a new epidemic.
Designed by a team of experts under the direction of APIC, and updated to reflect the 2005 CDC Guidelines for Preventing the Transmission of M. Tuberculosis in Health Care Settings, and the 2007 CDC Guideline for Isolation Precautions: Preventing Transmission of Infectious Agents in Healthcare Settings this award winning program discusses the spectrum of the disease including:
- Warning signs and symptoms
- Transmission
- Risk factors
- Prevention techniques – including fit testing
- Early identification
- The use of QuantifFERON-TB Gold test to detect TB
- The frequency and timing of testing
- Isolation guidelines
