Program Description
Learning Objective: To educate healthcare professionals on the elements of Palliative Care in order to meet Joint Commission standards, as well as describe best-practice guidelines and national initiatives
According to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) a "Good Death" is free from avoidable distress and suffering for patients, families and caregivers; is in general accord with patient and family wishes; and reasonably consistent with general medical, ethical and cultural standards.
Upon completion of the video and study guide, the learner will be able to:
- Demonstrate competencies in assessing the physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual needs of patients and families during end of life care
- Develop appropriate communication skills, interpersonal skills and attitudes
- Identify appropriate legal and regulatory issues surrounding palliative care
- Discuss ethical and professional principles surrounding end of life
